Is dirt costing you money?

Why do your Solar panels need cleaning?

Solar panels need cleaning to remove environmental pollutants from them. Bird lime, dirt from the rain, soot and pollen all contribute to clouding the view your panels get of the sky. Research in America has shown that efficiency can be significantly reduced and cleaning with normal tap water will not help, minerals and pollutants in mains water will leave spotting all over the panels which again will reduce efficiency.

Boston University in the States have done some research on this and claim that as little as a few grams of dust per square metre can halve their efficiency.

From the ground Solar panels can often seem clean but up close it can be a different matter. Bird lime is the worst often completely obscuring some areas.

How often should I have them cleaned?

In the UK there isn't too much research into how often Solar panels should be cleaned but abroad it is generally accepted that twice a year is the optimal frequency. Once in the spring when the days are lengthening and again in Summer. For the UK climate this seems an appropriate routine to keep your panels at their maximum potential.

Cleaning isn’t really something to be undertaken lightly, Often their position makes cleaning a hazardous job. Spick and Span can clean your solar panels using pure hot water to leave them clean, spot free and operating at optimum efficiency. No scaffolding is required as we use the reach and wash system to clean from the ground.
