Pilkington Aktiv and Saint-Gobain Bioclean
Some of our customers have told us we don’t need to clean their conservatory because they have “self clean” glass installed. Whilst its true that Bioclean or Activ glass will need cleaning less its only the Double Glazing salesmen who say it never needs cleaning.
Both Pilkington and Saint Gobain say their products will need cleaning from time to time and when pushed they would describe their products as “low maintenance” The difference is subtle but important. Also even though your glass units may be self cleaning the ridge, rafters and frames definitely are not. We have all seen conservatory roofs where the Upvc or painted finish has gone grey or green. Self cleaning class will not help there.
The airborne particulates from industry and vehicles mix with the rain to make a mild acidic solution that will permanently stain your roof and frames, this gets permanently ingrained into the finish and without regular cleaning you will be left with unsightly grey streaks. This is even more obvious when you think that all the dirt washed off of your hi-tech glass building needs to flow over your pristine new roof or frames before it reaches the gutters or window ledges.
Pilkington (the worlds largest glass manufacturer) say in their literature..
“Under no circumstances should any metal object or harsh chemical cleaner be
used to clean or otherwise come into contact with the coated surface.
Steel scrapers, razor blades, steel wool, metal squeegees, rings etc. will cause
scratching and may lead to permanent damage of the coating.”
Spick and Span only use pure water and soft nylon brushes so you have no fear of damaging the glass coating. Pilkington they also recommend softened water for rinsing down their glass units which is what Spick and span provide, remember hi-tech glass will need a high tech cleaning solution and this is where Spick and Span stand apart from our competitors.
